We All Shine On, Like the Moon and the Stars and the Sun: New Moon in Virgo

by Christina Cannes

Why in the world are we here
Surely not to live in pain and fear
Why on earth are you there
When you’re ev’rywhere
Come and get your share
Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
– John Lennon & Yoko Ono

If we all shine bright enough, all at once, all together, then darkness has no choice but to fade away into the shadows and hide. While the moon goes dark, it does not mean that we have to as well. Recharge those batteries and get ready to shine all through September with the astrology firmly rooted in the Earth. Now is the time to heal, now is the time to decide that you are here to live your purpose, now is the time to celebrate being alive and show the world who you truly are.

The August 30, 2019 new moon at 6 degrees Virgo combined with Mars, the planet of strength, courage and sexuality, is like the big bang – it’s the best moon phase in a very long time for starting something new. This new moon is also ideal for finding your soul mate or reinvigorating a relationship that’s slipped into the comfort zone. In aspect to Uranus, freedom rings and heralds in excitement and positive change telling us it’s our birthright to just be ourselves.

A new moon is both the ending and beginning of a 28-day cycle. This is an excellent time for sewing seeds, setting intentions, making a fresh start, or starting a new project. The effects of the new moon last for four weeks and the best time for beginning new projects is during the first two weeks of this new moon cycle with the most powerful portal being 24 hours after the full moon.

First things first, there’s a lot of energy in Virgo: the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars are all here. Virgo is represented by the virgin or maiden, with virgin originally meaning someone who was complete unto themselves. At its best, Virgo is a master planner with a genuine desire to make the world better and an eagle-eye for even the tiniest of details. Because Virgo (represented by the symbol of the earth maiden) is a health- and service-oriented sign, we are likely to find ourselves guided toward improvement of the self and others.

The Virgo new moon is a chance to not only commit to yourself, but to honour and love every part of who you are. Virgo is all about health and purity including your body, mind, and spirit. Clean up and clean out your home, diet, closets (literal and figurative), schedule, social life, and to-do lists of any sort. Now’s the time to embrace new habits and techniques that help you function in a pure, healthy, more simplified way.

With the Mars conjunction there’s a surprising amount of vim and vigour going around during this usually low energy time of the month. All this energy combined with the low ebb, could result in repression so let out steam in a positive way (go for a run, hit the gym, Marie Kondo and meal plan for the next 30 days).

With Venus in tow, the aggression of Mars can be channelled into passion and creativity. War and sex would make for appropriate past times during this lunar cycle. With Mercury in Virgo, there is also the tendency for intellectual prowess, snide and wit, and dinner-time debates.

Assertive Mars makes this an excellent phase for launching new initiatives and projects. Think business ventures and personal relationships, especially with the sun trine Uranus (reboots, rebirths, relaunches, redirection). Uranus, the breaker of chains, blasts freedom and self-confidence through the air asking you to express yourself! Leave your comfort zone behind, widen your social circle, listen to those flashes of insight – breakthroughs and new discoveries are the main course.

With the new moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars all trine Uranus show the world the real you, tell people why you are here, what you care about and what you truly love. Decide what you want and go for it. You have the full support of the universe.
