What History Tells Us About the Uranus Return of the United States

As we speak, there is a three-planet pile-up (Uranus, Pluto and Neptune) forming with historical references to war plus a preamble conjunction and a cycle linked to freedom and revolution:

  • Jupiter-Uranus conjunction – American Revolutionary War, Civil War & World War II
  • Pluto in Aquarius – American Revolutionary War
  • Neptune in Aries – American Civil War
  • Uranus in Gemini – Revolutionary War, Civil War and World War II
  • Uranus-Pluto Cycle – Freedom & Revolutionary Movements

It’s inevitable that as we progress towards Uranus in Gemini, along with co-stars Pluto and Neptune, we won’t see some escalated conflict. The good news is that after this period subsides (around 2032), we will see a renewal and a rebuilding, a ripe time to invest, build and grow as Uranus ingresses into Cancer.

Uranus, the Planet of Enlightenment

Uranus, known for its association with unexpected changes, revolutions, and innovative ideas, orbits the Sun for approximately 84 years and spends about seven years in each zodiac sign. When Uranus transits Gemini, it brings about revolutionary, unexpected, and transformative changes.

Named after the ancient Greek sky deity, Uranus often disrupts the status quo to bring about progress. Its influence is associated with individuality, freedom, and originality, inciting radical shifts in societal norms.

“…the unanimous consensus among astrologers is that the planet Uranus is empirically associated with the principle of change, rebellion, freedom, liberation, reform and revolution, and the unexpected breakup of structures; with sudden surprises, revelations and awakenings, lightning-like flashes of insight, the acceleration of thoughts and events; with births and new beginnings of all kinds; and with intellectual brilliance, cultural innovation, technological invention, experiment, creativity, and originality. In addition to the occurrence of sudden breakthroughs and liberating events, Uranus transits are linked to unpredictable and disruptive changes; hence, the planet is often referred to as the “cosmic trickster.”

Uranus-Jupiter Conjunctions Link to War

Historically, the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction has been associated with significant breakthroughs and discoveries, creative and philosophical awakenings, and the start of new movements and revolutions. It is also a transit linked to speeches igniting the flames of war.

Patrick Henry delivered his famous Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death oration on March 23, 1775, a few months before the conjunction in Gemini on June 8, 1775, which fueled the Revolutionary War.

Abraham Lincoln delivered his famous A House Divided Cannot Stand speech on June 16, 1858, a few weeks after the conjunction in Taurus.

The last time Jupiter-Uranus was conjunct in Taurus (May 8, 1941), Franklin D. Roosevelt (who served four terms as US President) declared “a state of unlimited national emergency in response to Nazi Germany’s threats of world domination” a few weeks later, on May 27, 1941. In a speech on this day, he repeated his famous remark from a speech he made in 1933 during the Great Depression: “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” The US entered World War II that December. 

Uranus in Gemini: The Impacts on US History

Gemini, the third sign in the zodiac wheel, is ruled by Mercury, the planet of communication. Gemini energy is characterized by curiosity, adaptability, and a strong desire for intellectual stimulation. It encourages exploration, communication, and the sharing of ideas.

Uranus will enter Gemini from July 7, 2025, to November 7, 2025, then again from April 25, 2026, to August 3, 2032, and finally, from December 12, 2032, to May 22, 2033.

When Uranus transits through Gemini, a unique cosmic dance unfolds. This transit is characterized by intense intellectual activity, technological innovation, and radical changes in the communication and transportation sectors. The combined influence of Uranus and Gemini may also lead to significant shifts in societal values and norms.

Additionally, Uranus in Gemini can transform the nation’s education system, potentially introducing more progressive and innovative teaching methods and learning technologies.

And lastly, travel gets a shake-up. 

The third Uranus return of the United States (Sibly) occurs on July 26, 2027. Looking back through history, let’s discuss how this energy might play out for the United States. 

American Revolutionary War (1775-1783) 

The first Uranus transit in Gemini occurred during the American Revolutionary War. This period witnessed a significant upheaval as the American colonies sought independence from British rule, embodying the revolutionary spirit associated with Uranus.

The first shot of the Revolutionary War was fired in Lexington, Massachusetts, at sunrise on April 19, 1775. This puts Uranus at 0° Gemini and Pluto at 26° Capricorn

A Jupiter-Uranus conjunction at 3° of Gemini occurred on June 8, 1775. 

The Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, at 5:10 pm (Sibly Chart – Uranus is at 8° Gemini). The Declaration of Independence is considered the founding document of the United States, serving as a formal explanation of why the Continental Congress voted to declare American independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain a year after the American Revolutionary War began in April 1775. 

The Treaty of Paris ended the war and was signed on September 3, 1783, in Paris, France, with Uranus at 11° of Cancer and Pluto at 8° Aquarius

The Constitution of the United States (1789)

The Constitution of the United States is the supreme law. It superseded the Articles of Confederation, the nation’s first constitution, on March 4, 1789. It was created on September 17, 1787, presented on September 28, 1787, and ratified on June 21, 1788, becoming effective on March 4, 1789. Uranus was at 29° Cancer with Pluto in Aquarius at 14°. 

According to Richard Hawkins in his book Power Versus Force, Chapter 10, Power in Politics:

The power of the United States, or any other democracy, arises from the principles upon which it is founded. Thus, we can find the basis of power by examining such documents as the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and the Declaration of Independence, and such acknowledged expressions of the spirit of democracy as the Gettysburg Address. 

If we calibrate the relative power of each line of these documents, we find the highest attractor pattern of all, out of which the power of the entire United States government emanates, in the Declaration of Independence: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” (statement calibrates at 700 – highest level and is enlightenment). These sentiments are echoed in the Gettysburg Address, where Abraham Lincoln reminds us that this nation was conceived in Liberty and “…dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal” and that “this nation under God, shall have a new birth of freedom—and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth” (also calibrates at 700 – highest level and is enlightenment). 

The makers of the Declaration of Independence were astute in drawing a very clear distinction between that which is spiritual and that which is religious. And they must have intuitively, if not rationally, known the marked difference between the power of the two. Religion is often associated with force, sometimes disastrously so, historically and today; whereas spiritual concepts such as loyalty, freedom and peace do not create strife or conflict, much less war. Spirituality is always associated with nonviolence.

American Civil War (1861-1865)

The first Uranus return coincided with the American Civil War. This conflict, which pitted the Northern states against the Southern states over the issue of slavery, resulted in a transformative shift in American society, aligning with Uranus’s symbolic association with radical change.

The first shot was fired at 4:30 a.m. on April 12, 1861, in Charleston, South Carolina, with Uranus at 9° Gemini conjunct Mars. A few days later, Neptune, at 29° Pisces, entered Aries. This was the USA’s first Uranus return and it kicked off a war. 

In 2025/2026, Uranus and Neptune will enter the same signs they transited during the Civil War. 

The Civil War ended at Appomattox Courthouse, Virginia, on April 9, 1865, with Uranus at 26° Gemini. 

World War II (1939-1945)

The second Uranus return in Gemini occurred during World War II. This global conflict saw remarkable technological advancements, particularly in communication and transportation, echoing Gemini’s influence.

The United States entered WWII after the attack on Pearl Harbor at 7:48 am on December 7, 1941, with Uranus at 27° of Taurus. Uranus did not enter Gemini until May 1942. The Battle of Midway occurred a few weeks later, in June 1942. 

The 2nd US Uranus Return (Sibly chart) occurred on May 31, 1944. A few days later, the June 6, 1944 D-Day operation brought together the Allied armies’ land, air, and sea forces in what became known as the largest amphibious invasion in military history. 

The war ended on September 2, 1945, at 9 a.m., a few weeks after the US dropped the first atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Japan signed the surrender treaty onboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay. Uranus was at 17° Gemini. 

The Third Uranus Return

The third Uranus return of the United States (8° Gemini) occurs on July 26, 2027, but will be in orb from 2026 – 2029. 

Looking at the transits during this time, it almost feels inevitable that we will be at war.

Three things jump out: 

  • Transiting Pluto conjunct the South Node trining Uranus conjunct Uranus 
  • Pluto squaring transiting Saturn
  • Transiting Mars squaring Jupiter
  • Transiting Neptune squaring Jupiter
  • Transiting Saturn sextiling the Moon

There’s a lot of volatility. It’s a Pandora’s box, opening up all kinds of karma, cycles and timelines. 

Supportive energy includes:

  • Transiting Jupiter at 0° in Virgo in the 10th house sextiling Venus
  • Uranus sextiling the Neptune
  • Transiting Mars trine Uranus

The Pluto-Uranus Cycle

Now, we have to factor in another cycle. The Uranus-Pluto cycle represents revolutionary cultural change and technological innovation that transforms society. The cycle lasts about 127 years on average, but due to Pluto’s eccentric orbit, it ranges between about 113 and 141 years in reality.

The American Revolution of 1775-83 started just before the sesquiquadrate in 1777-79, and America declared independence from Britain in 1776.

Slavery became an issue again when the American Civil War began in 1861 at the semi-sextile in 1860. It divided the nation between North and South and ended in 1865 at the semi-square with the Civil Rights Act, which abolished slavery.

By the sextile in 1943-44 (with the Uranus Neptune trine), the world was at war again. The fighting focused minds and led to many breakthroughs, such as nuclear physics and atomic weapons, the start of the space race and supersonic flight, the first programmable computer built to crack German codes, and the transistor and mobile telephones.

The current cycle runs from 1965 – 2104. We’re moving towards the peak of this cycle, so things could get interesting, although they probably won’t develop in the ways we’re imagining now. Here are the dates for the first half of the cycle:

  • Conjunction in 1965 – 1966 at 17° Virgo
  • Sextile in 1995 – 1997
  • Square in 2012 – 2015
  • Trine in 2026 – 2028
  • Opposition in 2046 – 2048

These are revolutionary periods when everything gets shaken up, and the status quo is overthrown. Uranus awakens the desire for freedom and liberates us from oppressive structures, especially those that are corrupt or no longer serve life. Pluto adds intensity and power, which drives reform at multiple levels of society.

According to Richard Tarnas in Cosmos and Psyche, these periods coincide with:

  • Rebellions against the establishment and a desire for freedom in many areas
  • Radical social and political change, with an intensified will to create a new world
  • Empowerment of revolutionary and rebellious impulses against oppression
  • Spread of radical political philosophies
  • Intensified artistic and intellectual creativity
  • Scientific breakthroughs and experimentation that drive innovation and rapid technological advances

Uranus trine Pluto occurs five times from July 2026 to May 2028. However, the influence will be felt before the trine from July 2025 to May 2029. The last series of trines in 1921-22 saw the founding of extreme politics like communism and fascism.

When Uranus (in Pisces)-Pluto (in Cancer) trined in 1921-22:

  • Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, and Joseph Stalin came to power.
  • The Chinese Communist Party (CCP), Spanish Communist Party, Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), and the National Fascist Party (PNF) in Italy were founded
  • Hyperinflation in Germany
  • The Irish War of Independence ended with a truce
  • Revolutions in Greece, Turkey, and elsewhere
  • Famine in Russia killed 5 million people
  • Discovery of the hormone insulin
  • First public radio broadcasts.
  • Discovery of the tomb of Pharaoh Tutankhamun

From 2026-28, expect radical social, political, and economic change and the consolidation of political power in the hands of a few powerful eccentrics. But the outcome will not be so devastating as last time. In 1922, Saturn square Pluto had a particularly nasty effect. 

The Uranus-Pluto trine of 2027 looks like it sets off a full-scale war for the US as it coincides with the second Uranus return. With Neptune at the midpoint of Uranus trine Pluto and Pluto in Aquarius, history is definitely rhyming. 

War karma is coming back to bite. With Uranus sextile Neptune and Neptune sextile Pluto, the social, economic, and political transformation ahead could be more ethical and enlightened. But only time will tell. 

The only clear message I can see is that this energy supports war, but as we continue to elevate consciousness and evolve, perhaps it’s best that we learn from our mistakes instead of repeating them.

Future Implications: 2025-2033

While I think the United States will remain divided and in domestic and foreign conflict until Uranus enters Cancer, the wars fought are likely to be psychological and technological (drones, cyber), and with Pluto in Aquarius, they will be economic (digital currencies, etc.). 

As Uranus prepares for its fourth transit through Gemini from 2025 to 2033, it’s essential to consider the potential implications. Drawing from historical patterns, it’s reasonable to anticipate significant transformations in communication technology, transport systems, and societal norms.

The nation stands on the precipice of significant change. While it’s impossible to predict exactly what this transit will bring, astrology suggests that there will be considerable upheaval and transformation.

However, it’s also a time of potential innovation and progress, particularly in areas related to Gemini, such as communication, education, travel and local communities. As we navigate this transformative period, it will be crucial to remain open to new ideas, adapt to changing circumstances, and embrace the revolutionary energy of Uranus in Gemini.
